As with omega-3, we would place this as an adjunct. Inflammation is one contributor to dry eye; blocked glands and poor lid hygiene are others, and a capsule does not clear a blocked gland.

How curcumin is thought to work

Curcumin acts on several inflammatory signalling pathways rather than a single target, which is both why it attracts research interest and why studying it is difficult. In dry eye specifically, the interest is in the ocular surface’s inflammatory cycle: surface stress drives inflammation, inflammation worsens tear film instability, and instability drives more surface stress. Interrupting any part of that loop is the rationale behind anti-inflammatory approaches generally, from prescription drops to dietary interventions.

What curcumin does not do is unblock a gland or clean a lash line. It is a systemic input into an inflammatory process, and it should be judged as that.
