About Meibocare
Meibocare™ is a New Zealand eye-care company making at-home treatments for dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction. We are Meibocare Limited (NZBN 9429052373770), founded in 2024 and based in Rosedale, Auckland. We make four products — an electrically heated eye mask, a castor oil eyelid cleanser, and omega-3 and curcumin supplements — sold directly and through New Zealand optometry practices.
What Meibocare is, and what it is not
Our name is often confused with other products in the same category, so to be unambiguous:
- Meibocare is not MIEBO. MIEBO (perfluorohexyloctane) is a prescription dry eye drop from Bausch + Lomb. We are not affiliated with it, and our products are not prescription medicines.
- Meibocare is not Meibopatch, which is a separate and unrelated eye mask.
- Meibocare is not a clinic. We make products; we do not provide eye examinations or clinical care. For that, see an optometrist.
Our name is one word — Meibocare — and comes from the meibomian glands in the eyelids, which is what our products are designed to look after.
Why we exist
Most dry eye is evaporative, and most evaporative dry eye comes back to the meibomian glands in the eyelid margins. Those glands secrete the oil that stops tears evaporating between blinks. When the oil thickens or the gland openings block, the tear film loses its cap and evaporates within seconds.
The standard first-line advice for this is a warm compress — and it is good advice that very often fails in practice. Meibomian oil is close to solid at room temperature and only flows once the eyelid itself is warmed to roughly 40 °C. A flannel or a microwaved bead mask delivers that for a minute or two and then cools, so the heat is real at the start of a session and notional for the rest of it. People conclude that warm compresses do not work for them, when what did not work was the heat source.
Meibocare started from that observation, in practice, with patients. Our products are built around doing the routine properly: sustained, controlled heat, then expressing the glands while the oil is soft, then cleaning the lid margin — in that order.
Who develops our products
Meibocare products are developed by practising New Zealand optometrists who see dry eye patients every week, and they are used and dispensed in optometry practice in Auckland. The clinical statements we publish are reviewed by an optometrist.
We set out our development process, testing, regulatory status and the evidence behind our claims in full on our clinical development and evidence page.
What we make
- E-Heated Eye Mask — an electrically heated mask with three settings and matched timers, targeting 42 °C at the eyelid and holding it for the whole session.
- LidBoost+ — 100% pharmaceutical-grade, cold-pressed, hexane-free castor oil for the lid margin. One ingredient, nothing else.
- LipidBoost+ — a mercury-free omega-3 providing 300 mg EPA and 200 mg DHA per capsule, for tear film quality.
- InflamBoost+ — a high-absorption curcumin with black pepper extract, for ocular comfort.
The starter and ongoing packages combine them, because dry eye rarely responds to one change alone.
Where our products are made
LipidBoost+, InflamBoost+ and LidBoost+ are manufactured in New Zealand by Zealand Health Manufacturing in Auckland, in a facility operating to HACCP standards certified by the Ministry for Primary Industries. The E-Heated Eye Mask is designed in New Zealand and manufactured in China. We would rather say exactly where each product is made than imply everything is made here.

How we write about eye health
We publish a large library of guides and articles about dry eye, meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis and related conditions. We write to the New Zealand Advertising Standards Authority's Therapeutic and Health Advertising Code: we hold evidence for the claims we make, we cite the research we rely on, and where the evidence rests on clinical experience rather than published trials we say so plainly.
Nothing we publish is a substitute for an eye examination. If you have persistent symptoms, eye pain, a change in vision, discharge, or a lid lump that is not settling, see an optometrist or doctor.
