Clinical Development and Evidence
Meibocare Limited is a New Zealand company (NZBN 9429052373770), founded in 2024 and based in Rosedale, Auckland. This page sets out who develops our products, how they are tested, and the evidence and standards behind what we say about them. We update it as new information becomes available.
Who develops Meibocare products
Meibocare products are developed by practising New Zealand optometrists who see dry eye patients every week, and the products are used and dispensed in optometry practice in Auckland. Every clinical statement on this website is reviewed by an optometrist before it is published.
Clinical research
The Meibocare E-Heated Eye Mask is the test device in a registered, randomised clinical trial sponsored by the University of Auckland: Electronic versus microwave-heated eye masks for meibomian gland dysfunction, ANZCTR registration ACTRN12625000997459. The trial compares the Meibocare mask with a conventional microwave-heated bead mask in 44 participants with meibomian gland dysfunction over six weeks, with tear film lipid layer grade as the primary outcome.
The trial is registered and its results have not yet been published. We will report the findings here, whatever they show, once they are available. Until then we make no claims about the trial's outcome.
Before the trial, the mask was tested in private optometry practice in New Zealand. That experience informed the product's design, but it was not a controlled clinical study, and we do not describe our products as clinically proven.

How we make claims
We write to the New Zealand Advertising Standards Authority's Therapeutic and Health Advertising Code. We hold evidence for the claims we publish, we cite the research we rely on, and where the evidence is limited to clinical experience we say so. If you believe a statement on this site is inaccurate, please contact us and we will review it.
Where to get advice
Meibocare products are not a substitute for an eye examination. If you have persistent dry eye, an eye infection, or any concern about your eyes, see your optometrist, ophthalmologist or doctor. Our authorised stockists include optometry practices that can assess your eyes before recommending a product.
